Hi I’m Alex! I started writing a blog back in 2013 as a way to capture my thoughts, feelings and emotions as I married my childhood sweetheart and we had our first child. I’m now a Mum of two little boys (Ethan & Logan) and I’ve continued writing, photographing and videoing ever since as a way to remember all of the little details that make up this amazing journey of Motherhood.

#1 (1:15): Have a good clear visualization of what you want your renovation to achieve and look like. You can use an app called ‘Home Design’ that lets you basically plan out everything you want in your house. I think this app is only in the UK.

#2 (3:03): Make sure you get several quotes and speak to a few builders. You could speak to neighbours or anyone local in your area that might have work done previously. The best piece of advice is to find somebody that gives you a fair and good quote and isn’t gonna charge you a ridiculous amount, but should be good at communicating and being punctual. You can use an app called ‘Rated People’ (only in the UK I assume).

#3 (5:30) : Be prepared for adding extras. Have your budget ready but don’t forget about all the extras that can come up (radiators, oven, flooring, decorating carpets), do google searches and make sure what’s included with your builder so you’re not surprised. Once you’ve saved up an amount that you think will cover all the renovation costs, have extra back up money.

#4 (6:30): Be prepared for dust. When you have renovations done the dust gets everywhere, every, single, day. If you’re boxing up a room get storage boxes WITH. A . LID. Even if you have boxes in seperate rooms you should still protect the contents inside.

#5 (8:09): Try and stay ahead of your builder. Take care of all the little details you may not necesarrily think of. There’s a lot of details that come up that you have to make a decision on (what shape of window do you want, which side, what latch opening, what type of backdoor do you want). It comes up really quickly so be ready and do your research to make sure you come up with all these decisions beforehand. It’s good to have things like shared reminder lists that you can do on your phone, you can also make shared pinterest boards!

Good tips, we’re about to start a huge renovation in a couple of months. Did you use any kind of software program, app, etc to keep you organized and track expenses?
