Really enjoyed this informative video. Has helped me with some paint ideas for my front entryway. My entryway and up the stairway has very little light and really no natural light. Thinking you might suggest the soft chamois. I have torn up the rug on the stairs and discovered beautiful oak medium brown coloured stairs. I’m wondering if you could suggest what trim colour I should use and what colour I should paint the railing. Thank you!

I am moving into a new home and it is all open concept. I want to do white throughout the whole house. My kitchen, family room and dinning room all face East. My problem is that I have honey gold hardwood flooring, bone coloured leather furniture for the living room, with a cool bone and teal carpet, dark wood kitchen table, and very modern glass dinning room table. I want the walls to appear white and I am afraid that the flooring will cast a yellow on them. How do I tone it down. The floors are beautiful so I dont want to cover them. I will be using a carpet onl;y in the family room
    Thanks

    Love this video!!!
    Great subject: WHITE!

Thanks, Julie. Great video. I love to decorate but choosing paint colors is so difficult for me. My house has lots of open 2 story high ceilings, is positioned East West & gets plenty of light. I already have all my trim and ceilings painted SW Divine White. Cannot change that. I am looking for the perfect white wall color to go with Divine White. I tried SW Big Chill but the blue tones were too strong and it is darker than I really want. Would SW Pure White be a good choice with my Divine White trim? If no, do you have any suggestions in SW. (Our painters use only SW)!! Thank you so much. Trisha P.S. I love your website and newsletter.

I’m in love with all of these colors! Out of all of these whites which would you say is the best and safest to use for an entire home interior? I love the warmth of a cream but I don’t want to walk into a yellow home but at first glance of this video I would pick the color in your breakfast nook for my whole house but i don’t know if that would be too yellow? Our ceilings and trim will be white and there’s different light in every room for us. what would you say is the safest for a whole house?

You’re the bestest! My SO and I have been looking for the perfect white, and we found it in your blog! I’ve read your internet blog on Soft Chamois (our chosen shade) and you mention it pairs well with a classic white. What is your preferred shade of classic white to accompany Soft Chamois?

  7. i7sxk on January 24, 2021 at 7:49 pm

Fantastic information. You have a warm beautiful home. Do you know what color your kitchen cabinets are? I just love them.

Hi! I have a question for you. I want to try the Benjamin Moore Soft Chamois but I want to make sure I have the right one. You mentioned before about Benjamin Moore’s soft chamois using the valspars signature paint? Are there two different ones or is it the same color? I got the Benjamin Moore soft chamois. No valspar. Did I get the right one?

So I want to paint the walls but not the trim or ceiling to avoid the hassle. My front is facing west so i get real nice sunsets in the evenings. Backyard is facing east. My trim and ceiling and doors are like a creamy white. What color should I get that goes well in this scene without painting EVERYTHING. My house is currently a sort of like a light khaki color which I can’t stand any longer. I want a like a soft white not sure if maybe the soft Shammy you mentioned will go well? :/

Hello Julie: I am very curious what do you think of the Benjamin Moore Simply White vs. Navajo White for the north facing place? Thank you!

  14. Janie Romano on January 24, 2021 at 8:00 pm

Hi Julie, any suggestions for a white kitchen paint color, my cabinets are linen with caramel glaze. I have a window which faces north. Its a small kitchen. I have yellow walls now which reflects on the cabinets which I don’t want anymore. My counters are a mixture of browns. Thank you for your advice, I enjoy your videos!

Hi Julie, I really liked your video, loved all the details you gave us but still do not know what to do in my house. maybe you could give some ideas. We just bought a 4-corner brick home built in 1925. It has some very cool original features, like gorgeous wood in the foyer and staircase, wide baseboards, etc. the rooms are all painted in different colors. I wanted to paint everything in white – either neutral or some warm shade of white. since we have four seasons where I live and snow in the winter, I am thinking that cool whites are not a great match. What would you suggest? Also the master bedroom is painted in a dark color – almost a cinnamon/brownish color. What do we need to do to prep the walls in order to paint white over such a dark color? thank you so much!

Just the detail information I need.Perfect.Thank you 🙋🏼‍♀️

  21. Midlife Mom on January 24, 2021 at 8:09 pm

My search for white paint colors, brought me to your video. Im mini-renovating my home next week and in a panic over wall, ceiling , baseboard paint colors! Help! My house faces E/W. The west side is the rear of the home with kitchen family room, open floor plan and lots of light. Could you PLEASE suggest a “safe” combo of neutral whites for wall, ceiling, and baseboards? My home is transitional in style. I cant possibly swatch so many to choose from. HELP!

Hi. What is the color on your living room again?

  23. Chara Miller on January 24, 2021 at 8:12 pm

So so helpful! Awesome video. Would you paint the ceiling and walls in a home the same color everywhere that has beautiful oak trim/railing/fireplace? I’m leaning towards white flour by SW for the walls and have thought about having the ceiling painted the same color with ceiling paint.

Hello from las Vegas, thank you for sharing your knowledge… could you repeat 8:01?? Soft chama-what??? I’m struggling with choosing what colors to add to my living room which is facing the East; it also has a big sliding door in the back (west) and no windows for the north and south walls… in the morning throughout the day it looks bright and lovely in there. But when the sun travels towards the west, it could look pretty yellow in there… I’m not a big fan of shades of yellow. I love pinks and browns. Any advice helps. Thank you.

So what is the color of the kitchen, anyone know?

  30. MrBazsi888 on January 24, 2021 at 8:21 pm

Hi, please help me. I have a modern house facing north. The entry is also north. Which is the most luxorious white ? For trims I used middle antracit grey. I’m searching for the most luxorious white color now. Thanks. My goal is to feel some kind of a luxory yacht vibe in the end. Door handle is chrome.

  31. Habiba Ali on January 24, 2021 at 8:24 pm

If your trims are white, what color walls would go well with the white trims? Your suggestion is appreciated!

  32. Ash C on January 24, 2021 at 8:24 pm

I’m finishing my basment which doesn’t have much natural light. We are painting an accent wall black and the rest of the walls white. Which white would you suggest for the space? Thanks!

  33. rikwen96 on January 24, 2021 at 8:26 pm

Thank you for showing your house painted in the colors you are talking about. It makes it a lot easier for me to "feel" the color palette and what it would like. I always try out paint samples before committing, but with so many colors on the market it sure helps to narrow down the choices. You have some great tips here. I feel confident to go try Navajo White and Soft Chamois in my mother’s 90’s colored home.

  34. j on January 24, 2021 at 8:26 pm

Love your home and video! What is the purple flower that you planted outside, around 1:20 of the video?

  35. PearlDiver on January 24, 2021 at 8:26 pm

Sick of grey. It is a shade of black, and stands for sorrow and mourning. Doesn’t belong in the home.

  36. MaMaMouse 18 on January 24, 2021 at 8:29 pm

Thank you! I have one more quick question. I am using the Benjamin Moore simply white for my trim with the Benjamin Moore soft chamois for the wall color. Do you think that’s enough of a contrast? Do you think those two will go well together? Thanks again!

  37. Tina Clark aka Aunt Tina on January 24, 2021 at 8:29 pm

It would be nice to show the spelling of the paint color names onscreen. Klunge?

  38. Susan Foster on January 24, 2021 at 8:30 pm

So happy to have found your video on white paint. I had a hard time understanding the names of the Farrow and Ball colors (White Tide? and Pointing?) All my woodwork is painted White Dove and would like to paint the walls in my family room white also but not sure I want to use the WD on the walls too. Room (currently BM Green Tea) has a fieldstone fireplace, brown leather sofas and some antique white cabinets and side tables. Any suggestions? Thanks again.

  39. Donna on January 24, 2021 at 8:31 pm

What color white for a sewing room that requires fine detail.
    – a computer, tv room, a dark room, a room to apply makeup, to read. I live here and the lighting (paint) should match the job. Not talked about when I go looking. “Rocky, soft, ivory vs creamy, clean” doesn’t tell me much.

  40. JayMMXII on January 24, 2021 at 8:31 pm

I’ve lived with and disliked my grey living and dining room for 8 yrs. I’m so excited to finally paint over it with a creamy warm white. Grey just feels so sad.

  41. 6pounds5ounces 67 on January 24, 2021 at 8:32 pm

    Thankyou for video

  42. Cristina Andrea on January 24, 2021 at 8:34 pm

    Wow this is so complicated.
I have pure white on my trims and for mu walls I am btwn cloud white or simply white from Benajmin Moore for my dining room but I am still debating.

  43. Raymara Sepulveda on January 24, 2021 at 8:34 pm

Love your video! Thanks for your wonderful explanation very helpful. I think I’m going for Soft Chamois, but I’m still confused as to what color I should use for the trim and ceiling any suggestions? Also, what finish is best for this color and for ceiling and trim? One more question sorry, but is so overwhelming to choose a paint color. How about interior doors other then white what would be a good color combination between the wall color and doors? Thank you again.

  44. mbrede1 on January 24, 2021 at 8:35 pm

My house faces east and west , but the light comes thru the west more. What white would you recommend.

  45. Charlotte Freismuth on January 24, 2021 at 8:35 pm

I love the information about white’s, I love these colors but I have a question about a a small 9×14 bedroom I have and want to paint it white but I am having such a hard time on picking a paint color. Do you have any suggestions for small rooms.

  46. Maria Lysenko on January 24, 2021 at 8:36 pm

Thank you for all the color explanations. I live in a small home and wanted it to feel cozy candlelight like. Out of all the colors you describe which has the most pinkish undertone? The kitchen cabinets look pinkish-tan to me.

  47. Shaylen Owens on January 24, 2021 at 8:37 pm

We are painting our walls Origami White by Sherwin Williams in eggshell. What color should we paint our crown molding, trim and chair rails? Our kitchen cabinets reach the molding on the ceiling so I’m thinking the cabinets need to be the same white as the molding that flows throughout the main areas.

  48. kimbo282411 on January 24, 2021 at 8:39 pm

Thanks for this informative video! White paint can be so intimidating. I have a south facing bedroom with one medium size window as a natural light source. What white paint color would you recommend for the walls and trim that would provide a warm, cozy feel? Thanks so much for your help!

  49. Melinda Hughes on January 24, 2021 at 8:39 pm

I’m thinking about painting my living room
Walls with Benjamin Moore White Dove. Which trim color do you think would work with it?

  50. Alex Mercado on January 24, 2021 at 8:41 pm

Ugh… interior designers. “I felt better with whites than greys because they’re warm.” What!? Both whites and greys can be warm or cool. Why can’t we talk about paint in terms of hue, saturation, and value like other design fields?
