I have never allowed myself to do open shelving because I know myself well enough to know that I will never be able to keep up with them… I don’t even let myself have clear cabinet doors.

    “That is hot” I lold

  3. bjr E. WA. on August 14, 2020 at 2:45 am

The markup on pre-built cabinets is insane. I went with a RTA (similar), got real plywood boxes, also called flat pak’s. Yeah, a little more work but WWaay better quality then most suppliers. I didn’t even mention the long lead times I was quoted. I had to go with laminate counter tops. The solid surface was nice but just way out of budget.

  4. Christina D on August 14, 2020 at 2:46 am

New subscriber here! I love your style and energy! I want to replace my black laminate countertops with something lighter but I don’t have the budget for stone right now. How’s the quality of laminate these days? Will marble print laminate look ok? Or will it look like my grandma’s diner-style kitchen table? 😧

  5. Sun on August 14, 2020 at 2:47 am

OMG. Great information…however, I shouldn’t have watched this before bedtime because the energy flowing out of Lisa is overwhelming! LOL! But I did subscribe and hit the notification bell…so I can watch during the day! 😉

  6. Papeeshka on August 14, 2020 at 2:49 am

Open shelving is so hot. Until one person sneezes in a pandemic. 😂 Why does everything have to look like a department store nowadays? The vanity, the kitchen shelves, the plant collection. It’s getting to be too much. I like empty space. With hidden storage. Lots of storage! Great video! 💕💕💕 I love learning from you.

  7. Terry Lust on August 14, 2020 at 2:51 am

Loved the video, but I wish you had mentioned some hood resources!!

  8. CeeAre on August 14, 2020 at 2:52 am

I’ve been designing kitchens and baths since the Carter administration and always seem to find a glaring flaw or two with the various vloging kitchen guru’s I stumble across on the web. Until now.
I currently do free lance consulting on kitchen design and have to say I found your video accurate, informative, and fun! You are a hoot, and I can only add "…yeah, what she said…" to your trends evaluation. It’s real world, what we are in fact seeing in the field. Kudos!

  9. Lady Tate on August 14, 2020 at 2:53 am

i like open shelves – so chic and kinda beachy. one long and a couple shorter. informal but neat for unique art objects and everyday items that see alot of action: luncheon plates, mugs, soup/dessert bowls – some heavy-duty (yet attractive) glassware w/ a stack of napkins and a jar of utensils. there is space left over for a radio, a living plant or 2 or 3 (w/ a grow lamp for each one), a couple fav cookbooks, an orchid : ) YES! the ‘messy things’ can be secreted to and from a drawer/cabinet above or below the counter/island. love lighted glass doors & a BEAUTIFUL LARGE LAMP (w/ a dimmer) on the island – the lamp on one end, and a HUGE BOWL of FRUIT or a GINORMOUS BOUQUET at the other! Everything in white and interesting quartz w/ blue veining. white marble as well. an old-style range in pale yellow w/ an incredible FRENCH HOOD! and a fridge w/ 2 sets of doors that allow one to see inside w/o opening it!

My appliances are bisque color and want to change my cabinets, any colors to match?

  11. Maryjane1340 on August 14, 2020 at 2:56 am

YT suggestions did good this time. My word where have u been all my life?!?!. Love your enthusiasm, and detailed explanation 💜. Question, is the design club only for interior designers?!?!.. my husband and I flip homes and I’d like to keep my redesigning fresh, clean and crisp. Sending tons of 💜 from TX

    i love your energy!

  13. Bandits Mia on August 14, 2020 at 2:57 am

Finally the farm house style is no longer trending!!!! Hate it so much

  14. Colleen A. on August 14, 2020 at 2:58 am

Finally a designer calling out how impractical open shelving is. It hurts to see beautiful design but no use for everyday use. I have a very small kitchen and like the idea of whitewashing the wooden cabinets. Thanks for the info.

  15. Chris Griffiths on August 14, 2020 at 2:59 am

dont put stickers or stick on tiles by a cooker its a fire hazard !

  16. Sherryl Joos on August 14, 2020 at 2:59 am

Lisa, I love your videos! I’m building a new home and would love even more info – modern bathrooms and ideas for shower wall materials besides tile. Count me in – I’m SUBSCRIBED!

  17. Michael Alemu on August 14, 2020 at 3:01 am

Lisa, where can I get these hoods?

  18. 202 50 on August 14, 2020 at 3:06 am

Using countertop material as your back splash was "in" way back in 2006.

  19. matilde Nogueira on August 14, 2020 at 3:07 am

    I love your honesty 🤣💗💗

  20. Peggy Asprey on August 14, 2020 at 3:08 am

I am having a few open shelves…not so much I can’t keep them clean. My husband? Well…we’ll see.

  21. Karin Solli on August 14, 2020 at 3:10 am

Redecorating my kitchen in black, with open shelves, black sink, island, and brass tap and hardware from Etsy. Apparently I’m a trend whore. Will be paying attention to the light because you are great!

  22. Papeeshka on August 14, 2020 at 3:12 am

I am in love with white marble. But by the time I can afford anything in white marble it will probably be out of style. 😖

  23. Nathalie on August 14, 2020 at 3:14 am

Hey Lisa! Your enthusiasm and practical reasoning is always music to my ears!
I missed the video about black countertops, I’d love to hear your input because it is what I have at home and I don’t regret it (only regret choosing pure stone instead of a stone composite, which is more durable and life proof – what my parents have.) Could you provide the link to that video? Thanks xoxo

  24. Nathalie on August 14, 2020 at 3:14 am

One big tip I would add : now you can have your sink build in under the countertop, so that you never again have to worry about the gunk piling around the sink edges! It looks really neat! and when you match the color or the sink with that of the countertop it looks amazing IMO.

  25. cetriya's Art n Comics Channel on August 14, 2020 at 3:14 am

I’d assume for open shelving that you’d only want one wall or small section to do that.

  26. LIZ DOUGLAS on August 14, 2020 at 3:14 am

Do you think marble subway tiles for backsplash will be timeless? What about Tuxedo cabinets? I’ve always loved marble but would be to expensive to do countertops and backsplash.

  27. Lesley St Germain on August 14, 2020 at 3:16 am

Hi! New subbie here 🙋‍♀️I love your channel! I have a decorating question.. Suggestions for kleenex boxes? Do you think a cover is tacky? Bc its really convenient having them out, instead of hiding them away lol but they ruin the aesthetic, so just wondering what you suggest? Thanks!

  28. Nahte Knight on August 14, 2020 at 3:18 am

I would hire this woman! She has the best personality 💛

  29. Elizabeth Klitzner on August 14, 2020 at 3:18 am

I don’t know your opinion on black countertops – what is it?

  30. Monica Gonzalo on August 14, 2020 at 3:19 am

    I agree, open shelves!!

  31. Christina on August 14, 2020 at 3:19 am

Lisa you are so spot on for the dark kitchens…keep the countertops and flooring light and light it up…yes! Also really love your idea about a pop of color in the kitchen island as an option to the appliance…very practical and on trend.

  32. bjr E. WA. on August 14, 2020 at 3:21 am

You are so right on the raising kitchen cabinets to the ceiling. I could only get 42" . So now I’m probably going to fill in with some 12" cabinets to get to the top. Oh yeah, right on, with the open shelf idea, "Put doors on them Suckers".

  33. Bluegrass Lady on August 14, 2020 at 3:22 am

Please stop the music. Please. Thanks

  34. Christine Nguyen on August 14, 2020 at 3:22 am

  41. lindandc on August 14, 2020 at 3:26 am

Do you have a suggestion for a light weight, good looking step ladder for tall kitchen cabinets?

  42. Maria Marsala on August 14, 2020 at 3:28 am

What were the hardware stores you recommended

  43. Lisa Lapinski on August 14, 2020 at 3:29 am

Thanks for your video. I will be relocating to Florida within the year and will work with the design center options.
I cannot wait to select kitchen cabinets, flooring, countertops, etc. Having worked in design, I want to put my personal stamp on my new home. I love elements of contemporary/traditional styles. In your opinion, can I mix in a french sideboard (Baker
Distressed ash with cool golden oak finish} with shaker cabinets and granite countertops? The design center will also have a good choice of cabinet material and color options.

  48. candi gonzales-dan on August 14, 2020 at 3:37 am

We’re moving in to our newly built house in a couple of weeks. Im thinking of painting the Beech wood upper kitchen cabinets ( greyish brown) to white and bottom cabinets and island to light grey. Do you think that would look good? Coz I want to have this clean look for the kitchen but Im not sure if I have the right color palette. I want it to match with the white Quartz countertop. Thank you. 😊👍🏻

  49. T H on August 14, 2020 at 3:38 am

Good advice on open shelves. If you can’t or won’t keep it clean don’t get it. Textured glass in some cabinet doors is beautiful. Cabinets to the ceiling is one less surface to dust. Large undivided sinks are really nice.

  50. ZuuZ Sh. on August 14, 2020 at 3:39 am

9 A big thumb up 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 . But, No 10 ,well , sorry it’s a Nooooooooo😖🥴, 🤓. OK … you want to know my point of view:- I totally agree with you about not to hv open shelves, SO , in that case we need to have those open fan with no hood ,,to have at least an open aria space on one of the walls✨
